Whack the moles as they pop!

How to play Whack-a-Mole

How it works

For thirty seconds, moles pop up from nine holes in random patterns — each one stays visible for about two-thirds of a second. Click (or tap) a mole while it's up to score. Misses cost nothing but pride; hesitation costs points. Your best score is saved in your browser.

Reflex technique

  • Anchor your eyes center-grid and catch motion with peripheral vision — tracking one hole at a time loses the corners.
  • Hover, don't chase. Keep the cursor near the screen center so every mole is within a short flick, not a cross-screen dash.
  • On touch screens, use two thumbs hovering over opposite halves of the grid — reaction coverage doubles.

Scores

Thirty seconds at 750ms pop cycles gives you roughly 30–35 chances. Twenty whacks is respectable; thirty is sharp; forty means the moles should file a complaint. Best score persists in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Do misses hurt my score?
No — clicking an empty hole costs nothing but time. The score only counts clean hits, so swing freely.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes — tap the moles directly. The nine-hole grid is sized for thumbs and works great in portrait.
Why 750 milliseconds between moles?
It's the calibration sweet spot from testing: fast enough to demand focus, slow enough that every miss feels like your fault — which is the correct amount of motivation.
